Mitchell Nail
Mitchell Nail knew from an early age he wanted to pursue a career in agriculture. Throughout high school, he worked on his family's farming operation, Nail Bros. Farms, helping produce soybeans, cotton, rice, milo and wheat.
Upon graduating high school in 2003, he enrolled at Arkansas State University (ASU) in Jonesboro, majoring in agricultural business.
During and in between his junior and senior years, Mitchell interned at three different locations:
The spring semester of his junior year, he interned with the Greenway Farm Network (now the AgWatch Network), which Rick Crawford spearheaded. Mitchell learned how to record and edit audio while observing trends in farm markets.
The following summer, he interned with the Arkansas Farm Bureau as a public relations intern, writing and photographing for various magazines and publications such as Front Porch, Arkansas Agriculture and Farm Bureau Press. He even served as a judge in southeast Arkansas for the Regional Farm Family of the Year competition.
During Mitchell's final semester of his senior year, he served as an intern with the University of Arkansas' Cooperative Extension Service in Craighead County. There, he learned how the land-grant university system benefits ag producers throughout Arkansas.
Mitchell graduated from ASU in 2007 with a degree in agricultural business and a minor in journalism. He was selected as the College of Agriculture's Chancellor Scholar, an award given to a graduating senior with the highest grade point average in each college.
Shortly afterwards, Mitchell took a position with Rick Crawford's newly created AgWatch Network as news director. One of his first tasks included building and maintaining a database for area ag producers to receive farm markets on their mobile phones via text messaging.
In 2009, Rick announced his plans to run for U.S. Representatives, leaving Mitchell to oversee and handle the daily production activities of AgWatch Network. Specifically, he maintains AgWatch's website and records and produces six broadcast news features daily.
In 2010, Mitchell helped AgWatch Network's parent company, Farm House Media, launch 103.9 The Game, an FM sports-talk radio station in the Jonesboro area. In addition to his duties with AgWatch, he now co-hosts a show called The House with Craig and Mitch from noon to 3 p.m. on weekdays on their new radio station.
Mitchell lives in Jonesboro, stays active in a local church, and plans to get married this year to his fiancee, Samantha Dunivan.
